The Reservoir in a Jar model is an engaging activity to introduce students to porosity and permeability properties in soil and rock. The model uses simple materials to create a stunning visual for students to interact with and observe a natural phenomenon (fluid moving in the pore space of substances).
The model was created by Dr. Prodanović to serve as a visualization of petroleum aka oil and natural gas being stored in the pore space of rock AND demonstrate how petroleum and natural gas migrate through the pore space of a geologic formation. The model can be easily used to teach students about water movement through soil layers and many other applications.
This document contains details related to how the model is constructed and used in the classroom, including specific content the model can be used to teach with various curricula.
