Energy Science & Technology Institute
The University of Texas at Austin’s Energy Science & Technology Institute introduces STEM high school teachers to the latest technological innovations in the Texas oil and gas industry. The five-day summer institute is led by numerous faculty from the Hildebrand Department of Petroleum and Geosystems Engineering. It includes hands-on activities and labs, discussion sessions, breakout sessions, and online coursework. Participants have the opportunity to meet faculty and discuss technology, engineering, careers, and other topics in an informal setting. You can find out more here about the upcoming institute.
West Texas Energy Summit
The West Texas Energy Summit is a teacher professional development in the Permian Basin and is being led by UT Austin’s Hildebrand Dept of Petroleum and Geosystem Engineering’s Outreach Team. The West Texas Energy Summit is sponsored by SPE-Permian Basin, Chevron, and the Texas Rangers.
Wed. June 11th – 8am – 5pm
Thurs. June 12th – 8am – 4pm
This workshop will be held in Midland, TX, and is designed for 7th – 12th grade STEM teachers in the Midland/Odessa area. The West Texas Energy Summit is FREE to teachers with a $50 refundable registration fee.
Over the course of two days, participants will gain access to valuable classroom resources focused on oil, gas, and energy production. The activities will highlight the engineering and technology involved in extracting and utilizing these resources. Additionally, teachers will have the opportunity to explore the industry firsthand through visits to various field locations and work sites. Upon completion of the 2-day workshop, teachers will receive a certificate providing 17 CPE hours. Rock Solid: Teaching with Energy
The Southwest Section of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) Convention sponsored K-12 Teacher Workshop is designed to empower teachers with the necessary skills to effectively teach earth science and energy concepts to their students. The workshop provides hands-on training, lesson plans, and resources to help engage students and foster a love for science. The workshop’s mission is to empower teachers to effectively teach earth science and energy concepts through standards-aligned content and professional development. Teachers will also learn about STEM career opportunities in earth science and energy industries.
